Church in Addis by guuleed
Approximately 33% of the world today is considered to be Christian, with Christianity ranking as the world’s largest religion according to Adherents.com, which also shows the largest Christian populations to be in the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, China, Germany, Philippines, United Kingdom, Italy, France and Nigeria (2006).
A religious phenomenon gaining popularity across the world is the concept of megachurches. A megachurch generally has a congregation with at least 2,000 people attending service every Sunday, runs on a budget of $5 million/year averagely, with staff members numbered at 50 or more … the thread that ties this together is often a charismatic senior preacher (also known as Executive Pastor) and outreach ministries that operate seven days a week. According to studies by Hartford Seminary Sociologist Scott Thumma, the four states with the most megachurches in the U.S. were found to be California, Texas, Florida, and Georgia.
A 2010 report by ChristianPost shows that the salaries for lead Pastors in churches generally range from $40,000 to $400,000/year.
While Christianity is about love and service, there are growing concerns that to some unscrupulous ones, it has become a way to manipulate “the flock” and gain riches. How? The following documentary by Seyi Rhodes takes you into the world of Church for Business – the mindset, tactics and the gains … in their own words.
