With such crazy statistics as “Social Media has overtaken porn as the #1 activity on the Web,” and “1 in 5 divorces are blamed on Facebook,” as reported on Socialnomics.com, it’s no wonder most of us are social media participants in one form or the other. Platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Google+ have basically become household names, very much a part of our daily lives. In fact, recent studies show that 1 out of every 11 people in the world are on Facebook.
So how do we maintain some control and a sense of normalcy? Here are some things you shouldn’t do on Facebook and why:
1) Reveal your full date of birth on your profile; this might lead to identity theft. The day and month of birth are good enough.
2) Make derogatory comments about your boss and/or your job; you just might get fired — as was the case with this Connecticut woman.
3) Announce personal trips and vacations; thieves and crooks might be watching.
4) Post too frequency (of course this is relative); folks easily get fed up of you “yapping-yapping”.
5) Gossip. While it might be entertaining for some, most people are trying to stay positive these days.
6) Put up with folks you don’t like; could be extremely aggravating. You have the choice to either ‘hide’ their feeds or hit the ‘unfriend’ button.
7) Ignore messages from ‘friends’. This is perceived as ‘rude’ and unfriendly. Some might take it personal.
… and by the way, check for grammatical mistakes before you post. These are usually huge turn-offs!
